My days of being celebrated at a Bridal shower are over, and a Baby shower is just an ancient Memory for me. But on my birthday my friends and family Showered me with blessings. My Bible study group met at my house in The morning and when the first gal Arrived she brought a flower. I quickly found a vase to hold it. But each of the other ladies also brought Flowers until my vases and my Heart were full. Throughout the day and up until Bedtime I received cards, gifts, and Happy Birthday wishes by word and by Song, from my kids, grandkids, and friends. No matter how old I get to be, I'll Never outgrow the delight of being Showered and soaked with love. |

My birthday slipped up on me, and I forgot to
Write a poem, so I'll pen a few thoughts now. At my age I jokingly say I dread a new One because it means more wrinkles, More hip pain, More deterioration in my brain. But Jack always said that we're not Getting older, but just closer, thoughts Of Elizabeth nearing her last rung. And so, I'll embrace my day, thankful for My family and friends who remind me That I'm loved. And it gives me a twinge to think that Jack just might be remembering me too. I enjoy visiting Betty.
She's adapted well to her assisted living Community, and she always shares an Insight for me to tuck away. Today Betty was pensive since one of her Friends in the facility had died. "I miss her," she said. But the elderly lady was ready. She knew her heart was failing and That nothing more could be done, and Yet, she was upbeat and expectant. "I'm almost on the last rung," she told Betty. I love that picture. Marjorie wasn't heading down to the Grave. She was climbing up, and when She finally reached the top, she Must have been overwhelmed by the view. Sometimes a divine appointment is as
Simple as greeting a lady at the Gas station, A woman dressed in ethnic garb covered from Head to toe. It's learning she's from Somalia and Commenting, "I know there's lots of Turmoil there." "Yes," she responds. "I know you are misunderstood." "Yes," she agrees. It's putting my arm around her and Telling her I love her, and as she Walks away with a big smile on Her face, it's shouting across the Parking lot, "I love you in Jesus." I shouldn't have sung the words.
It was a familiar hymn that I learned as A child, but as I sang the third verse this Morning in church I realized I was not Being truthful. "Take my silver and my gold, not a Mite would I withhold, Not a mite would I withhold." * Why can I casually sing words that I would never say or choose to obey? *"Take My Life and Let It Be" by Havergal When a grandchild hurts, a
Grandma bears triple pain, Her grandchild's, Her child's, and Her own. Fortunately, God is well Equipped to handle it all.
Just as exciting as sharing a tract or
A prayer, or a Gospel bracelet with Someone who needs to hear the Good news is connecting with A gal who is eager to do The same thing and Encouraging her along. Often while I'm alone in the
Car, I talk to Jesus, Praising Him, Singing, Sharing my requests, Listening for His responses. But driving home this Evening, I was bone tired, Brain tired. It was hard for me to Even speak or to Formulate my thoughts. So we just rode along, silent, Like Jack and I used to do, And simply enjoyed each other's Company. Years ago in my prayer notebook I
Began to list the names of new Widows and widowers so I would Remember to pray for them. The section has expanded to Fifty two entries. Each name represents a broken Heart, a fellow griever beginning an Unwanted journey. It always pains me to add a new Person to my list because I know what Lies ahead for the wounded one. We're a group that no one Wants to join. But today I had no choice but to Add Mary Ellen to the roster. I pray that she can sense that She's not alone. Those of us who are farther along Are here to encourage her. But more importantly, I pray that He who heals broken hearts will Tend to hers. |
