Church since we were wed.
We were greeted warmly over and
Over.
"Congratulations!"
"Best Wishes!"
But when I saw the elderly man
Walk toward us pushing his
Walker, my happy heart was
Subdued.
The dear gentleman had
Recently lost his wife, his
Soul mate for over 60 years.
We hugged.
"I'm so happy for you," he said.
And he began to weep.
"But I'm so lonely."
We hugged some more.
"I know. I know. I know."
I tried to console him, but my
Words fell short.
None would suffice.
And as my precious grieving friend
Bravely pushed his walker along in
Front of us, well wishers continued to
Tell Danny and me, "Congratulations!"
