Would anyone notice us at the
Prayer booth at the
State Fair?
My friend and I had signed up
And we were scared.
Decked out in red "prayer
Aprons," we were noticed.
We stood out.
And that's what we did.
We stood out in front of
Our booth and
Smiled at the people
Walking by,
Hoping to catch someone's
Eye.
And when a connection was made
I extended my hand and said,
"I'm Dorothy, and I'm here at the
Fair to pray. Do you have a request?"
Most of them did.
A lady riding in a scooter needed
Prayer for a knee replacement.
A young man, Joseph, was taking
A wrong path.
Tracey's marriage was falling apart.
The prayers were as varied as the
Fairgoers.
A dear widow asked me to pray for
Her son, and later she came back
With him and at least twelve more
Of her extended family.
They were lined up in front of our
Table as we assisted them.
Two of the boys gave their hearts
To Jesus,
Right on the spot.
Later, two ladies made the
Same decision.
Deanna and I were running on
Adrenalin, on joy overload.
When our four hours were up
We were spent, physically,
And emotionally.
It takes stamina to stand in
The heat and crowds to pray.
It takes boldness that God
Loves to give.
The excitement stayed with me
And I fell asleep to the wonder
Of the prayer booth
At the fair.
