Sunny day,
Traveling through the mountains,
My friend driving my car
So I could just relax and
Enjoy the view.
We stopped for gas and food and
As I tried to throw away my
Trash in an overflowing
Garbage can,
I noticed a forlorn man
Standing there.
"Do you have a dollar?" he asked.
"No, I'm sorry."
I had no cash on me.
But as I began to get back
In the car, I had a change of
Heart, took a dollar bill and a
Tract from my purse
And went back to speak to
The hopeless-eyed man.
His name was Bill, and his
Story of betrayal was a
Sad one.
Was it true?
I don't know, but I know my
Heart ached for him.
I showed him my gospel bracelet
And explained each colored bead.
"Have you ever prayed to receive
Jesus?" I asked.
"Yes, but I don't think He heard me."
"He will hear you. Do you want to
Pray again?"
And beside the trash can outside
The truck stop Bill opened
His heart to Jesus.
I prayed too, and asked God to direct
The troubled, confused man,
To give him wisdom,
To show him where to go and
What to do.
He thanked me, and my friend
And I were off again.
Am I foolish enough to believe
He was sincere, and that such
A simple encounter could
Actually change his life?
Perhaps.
But I choose to believe that
Our meeting wasn't an
Accident,
And that it just might be a
Baby step toward a new
Beginning for Bill.
