The leaves are mostly gone, Relegated now to ground cover. The stark trees blend in with the Dreary landscape. But I notice the bare limbs and Branches that splay out from the Slender gray trunks, distinct and Yet intricately intertwined. I pinpoint a squirrel scampering to Its nest in a high up crotch. I'm finally able to spot the edge of The ravine that cuts through the Woods behind our house, all Features that were obscured when The foliage flourished. Barrenness isn't all bad. When the green leaves turned Gold are stripped away I'm able To hone in on the unique beauty That has been hiding there all along. |

"Oh no!" I cried when I opened my
Door and spied my plant. Depleted of water, it was Clinging to life. Was it too late? Quickly I filled my watering Can and slowly poured out The life giving liquid onto the Impacted soil. I repeated the process several Times, soaking the roots until the Water spilled out onto the Concrete patio. An hour or so later it had Recovered. My revived plant, A reminder of how God refreshes me In my own times of drought. "The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters Do not fail." Isaiah 58:11
I noticed the sanctuary was
Darker than usual as I sat in Church. But we were well into the Service before I realized I had Forgotten to remove my Sunglasses. What a difference it made when I took them off and saw my Surroundings in a new light. I wear blinders when it comes to The issues swirling around me. But a young friend and I talked for An hour and a half on the phone, Listening to each other, explaining our Positions, admitting our biases. We didn't really reach any Conclusions, but just being willing to Respectfully explore each other's World views was eye opening. And we plan to do it again. |
