My amaryllis is blooming, just Like those of my Facebook friends. Unlike the white and pink ones, Mine is a red variety. It was a Christmas gift from my Sweet niece who lives in New York. I was surprised to find the Package on my doorstep. How could such beauty be Tucked inside a nondescript Brown bulb? How could the huge blooms Burst from such thin green Stems? How could Miranda know what a Lift her gift would be on a Dreary day in Ohio? |

Six old friends were
Seated around my table, the Eldest, 95, and I was the Youngest at 78. We'd shared a mixture of joy and Sorrow over our 40 plus years together, And now we shared memories, Laughter and a pot of tasty chili. These dear sisters who were Surrounding me were my faithful Forever friends, my encouragers. They had enriched my life. I treasured them. I've learned that old friends are Gold friends. The speaker at my grandson's
Graduation spoke for only five Minutes. Hooray! But she packed in a lot of good Advice in her short message. I was pleasantly surprised. "Research shows that giving and Receiving hugs boosts your Immune system." she told us. I latched on to that bit of data. I love to give hugs, but now I Have another good reason to Dispense them. Walking into church today, one of Our greeters, named Randy, gave Me a hug like he always does. "Guess what!" I told him. "Hugs are good for our health. Let's start a healing hugs ministry." He jumped on board. In Sunday School we began to pass out Hugs. One lady mentioned that perhaps we Need to be cautious because of Covid. But if hugs boost the immune system, We may actually be preventing Covid. In any case, be forewarned. If you don't want a hug, stay clear of me. The lady who was stocking the shelves at
Walmart was from Vietnam. Since we had become friends I gave Her a hug. I also recognized the man who was Trying to talk to her. He lived in my neighborhood and Was from Mexico. The three of us tried to Communicate with little success. My few Spanish words to Jose were, "No hablo espanol," and I knew not a Word of Vietnamese. But we laughed at our attempt to be Understood, so much so that we Were blocking the aisle. Finally I said, "Smiles are the same in Every language," which resulted in More glorious grins of friendship. We had connected. When there are no words, a smile will Suffice.
When your birthday falls on
Bible study day, a sweet sister Brings cupcakes to celebrate. And when she urges you to Take a few of the treats home, You stop by the senior facility and Share two of them with dear Friends. You give the last cupcake to your Almost blind neighbor, and you Find that passing your birthday Blessings around multiplies yours. And on the day after your birthday, You say "Thank you" a hundred Times over to your Facebook Friends who made your day extra Special. Jesus loves me this I'm told,
Even though I'm growing old. Despite my wrinkles and weak knees, He sees my young soul underneath. And who needs a special day?
Missy and Rachie are my treasures and a Reason to celebrate 365 days a year. I love you girls, and I'm glad you have never Stopped calling me Momma.
