Jumped at the opportunity.
But when I received the call,
"Could a woman stay with you
Tonight? She's in a dilemma,"
I hemmed and hawed before I
Finally said, "Yes."
In twenty minutes my visitor had
Arrived and I needed to revise my
Evening plans.
But as she poured out her story I
Was moved to the core.
I couldn't relate to her trauma, and
My words of encouragement sounded
Like platitudes to me.
But I listened and I prayed with the young
Woman who could have been my
Daughter.
I prepared her bed with an
Electric blanket and in the morning I
Prepared scrambled eggs for her
Breakfast.
I hugged her good-by when another lady
Picked her up.
I told my broken new friend that God
Wouldn't abandon her, that He was holding
Her in His shepherd arms.
And I pray that she will discover for herself that
She can trust Him.
