My neighbor stuck a row of small flags Along the edge of her yard. I hoisted my large one to the top of Jack's flag pole. I stood at attention this morning and Saluted the symbol of our nation. It's what Jack would have done. The birds were my only company as I took a moment to ponder the Meaning of the day. More than a million have died in Battle since the Civil War. But it's easy to get caught up in the Numbers and forget that each soldier Was someone's daughter or son. In my small but sincere way I wanted To remember them. I wanted to express my gratitude for The brave and often forgotten ones who Gave up their lives for mine. |
