When our friends failed to show up For our lunch date, Danny and I Decided to set out on our own. Since Mohican State Forest was Nearby, we headed there. We parked by a covered bridge and Poked along on a rugged trail using Our walking sticks to stay steady. We chatted with several hikers who Passed by, one named George. When he learned we were newlyweds he Said, "Maybe there's hope for me." We told him we would pray that God would give him a good wife. When we reached Vista Point it was Just the two of us enjoying the view. We peered at the panorama, a Greenscape that stretched as far as We could see. All was silent except for the sound of Acorns plopping to the ground. A plump caterpillar crossed our Path, oblivious to the splendor Overhead, probably intent on Finding a spot to spin its cocoon. Sun rays streamed through the Foliage warming our spirits as well As our bodies. We were forest bathing, absorbing the Beauty and serenity of our surroundings. We lingered. And we lingered. But duty called us home. Danny and I were sad we had Missed seeing our friends. But we were so very grateful we Hadn't missed the glory of an Almost fall day. |
