Appointment.
It was early.
And because my mind was
Wandering, I worked at staying
Alert, at keeping my eyes on the
Road.
I wanted to use my drive time to
Pray, but my brain wouldn't
Cooperate.
It was overloaded with a multiplicity
Of needs.
Suddenly a familiar prayer came to
Mind, the one Jesus taught His
Disciples, the one we repeated so
Often in my country church that I
Had learned it by heart.
I began to sing the words, reminding
Myself that my hallowed Father provides
My daily needs, forgives my sins and
Delivers me from the evil one.
And as I neared the end of my
Prayer-song, I finished with a
Flourish, a grand crescendo rivaling
That of a grand soloist at a wedding:
"For thine is the kingdom and the
Power and the glory forever,
Amen."
I believe God was pleased with my
Praise.
When I just can't find my own words to
Pray, His are always available, and
Always apropos.
