Someone confused the colors. Seated in my daughter's family room, I saw the beautiful bird perched on a Branch outside the window, so close I Could have touched it if the glass Hadn't separated us. I saw that its feathered breast was Orange, yes, absolutely orange. Harry Woods, who wrote the song "Red, Red, Robin," got it wrong. And so did the books I read to my Preschoolers which called the Bird, "robin red breast." Did the shorter word sound more Pleasing to the ear, rather than "The Orange, orange robin went bob, bob, Bobbing along?" Investigating further, I read in my bird Book that the American robin is easily Recognized by its red breast. But the bird pictured there had an Orange tummy. Why? Hasn't anyone else noticed? Is everyone color blind? Am I? |
