"How can I pray for you?"
I ask the question often, of
Waitresses,
Hairdressers,
Soliciters.
I don't ask the question glibly,
For I really do want to pray, and
I write their requests in my little
Spiral notebook.
It's a privilege to call a friend
Today and ask her for a prayer
Request.
It takes a sense of trust on her part
To know I won't share her private
Needs with anyone but the Lord.
And it takes a sense of trust on
My part, too, to believe that
God will hear me
And answer my friends' plea
In the best way possible,
Even when it's not the answer
We'd both hoped for.
