The deer are more visible when The trees are bare and the Ground is white. Seven of the beautiful creatures Passed by the house tonight, Stopping to nibble on the blades of Grass hidden under the snow and To munch a few leftover leaves on The trees. How blessed I was to observe Them! I wondered abut their homelife, Where they sleep at night and Whether they huddle together to Keep warm. I understand the large animals Are prolific and their numbers Must be controlled. But growing up on the farm we Rarely spied a deer. They were few back then. Once a single doe joined my Brothers as they drove a herd of Sheep down our gravel road to a Barn. Inside, the frantic deer escaped Through a door and bounded Across the fields leaving my Brothers awestruck. And tonight I was also mute with Joy as I observed the gentle Beasts stopping by for a Twilight visit, a perfectly lovely Ending to a snowglobe day. |
