Since my old pole is gone, I display a Small flag by my sidewalk. And my neighbor installed Old Glory on her patio post, just in Time for Independence Day. I delight in seeing our country's Banner flutter in the breeze. Some folks despise our flag because They haven't experienced the Tyranny that many of our Immigrants have endured. My husband was one of them His family suffered dearly under the Communist regime in China. Min was one of the fortunate ones who Was able to make it out. It was a proud, proud day when he Became a citizen. (Today marks 45 years since he's been Gone.) Another friend of mine made a Harrowing escape from her occupied Country. With a wildly beating heart, she skied Through a no-man's zone, through dense Woods and powdery snow to safety. She risked her life for freedom. Helena knows what real oppression is. On the 4th, millions of us still salute the Flag and thank God for our free Country. We honor our forefathers who died to Secure our freedom, freedom that Extends even to protestors who Debase and deface our flag, freedom That we earnestly pray is not Slipping away. |
