We were in hummingbird heaven. The miniature chirping creatures Zipped through the branches above us So quickly we could barely track Their flight. A group of us were gathered in the park Holding up vials of sugar water hopeful That one of the ruby throated beauties would Choose to sip from our container. Not everyone was able to entice them but We all attracted bees which we carefully Swished away from our nectar. At least twice I was honored by a Tiny fowl that dipped its needle-like Beak into my vessel just inches From my face. Sudden fleeting splendor! I've never seen a gathering of people Sitting so quietly thrusting their Arms upward just waiting and Watching, Watching and waiting. We hoped for one more glimpse of the Wee wonders that God created for His Good pleasure, and for Ours. (This took place at Lake Hope.) |
