A famine gripped the land and
God sent Elijah to Zarephath where
He had arranged for a widow to help him.
Indeed, the prophet found the destitue
Woman.
She was preparing to fix a final meal for
Herself and her son expecting that
They would starve.
Elijah's request, then, seemed
Unreasonable.
"Make a cake for me first."
Amazingly, the woman obeyed, and in response
To her trust, God provided food for them, day after
Day after day.
I noticed a new twist as I read the
Story this time.
When the desperate widow went out
To gather sticks for her fire she had not a
Clue that she was a divine appointment just
Waiting to happen.
And to this day, God is still planning them.
I Kings 17:9-16
(It's an interesting study to search for other
examples. A few obvious ones are Ruth and Boaz,
Jesus and Zacchaeus, Philip and the Ethiopian.)
