I couldn't escape the urgent thought.
I had heard that my friend was in
Critical condition, and I didn't want to
Miss my chance to say good-by.
But when I arrived, I was wonderfully surprised to
Discover she was doing much better.
After our visit I was walking back to my car when
I noticed a patient sitting on a bench taking in
The warm sunshine.
He had a bushy mustache and was smoking a
Cigarette as he was attached to an IV pole.
As Jack would say, he looked like he had been
Down a lot of rough road.
I greeted him, and then sat down.
We "clicked."
After his girlfriend died, he turned back to
Alcohol, a curse in his family, and
It was killing him.
He had pancreatitis, diabetes and a
Broken spirit.
God gave me compassion for the humbled man.
I read Jack's tract to him describing how
God had delivered him from alcohol.
I told the heartbroken patient that I had lost
Loved ones too.
And I carefully explained the gospel with
My bracelet.
"No one is too bad for God to save him," I said.
And I tied it to his wrist along with his hospital band.
"Have you ever prayed a prayer to receive Jesus?"
"No."
"Is there any reason you wouldn't want to do it now?"
"No."
And sitting on the bench in front of the hospital, the man
Read the salvation prayer out loud.
I wrote his name, Don C., on the back of the
Pamphlet, along with the date.
"Do you know how much God loves you?" I asked.
"He planned this meeting, and now you have Jesus in
Your life to help you overcome your alcoholism."
He thanked me for the bracelet and my prayers.
I could barely contain my joy.
I thought I had come to visit Linda, but my
Main mission was to meet Don.
(In church yesterday I "happened" to run into
Phil Gegner who does hospital visits. He is going
to visit Don this afternoon about 1:00, and would like prayer for the
right words. I'm praying it may open up a door to minister to Don.)
