Alma Mater which meant a
Solicitor would be asking for a
Contribution.
I had ignored pervious ones, but
This time I picked it up.
The gal was friendly, and after
We got the business out of the way,
I connected with her.
She's a freshman, a communications
Major from another state.
I asked about her family.
She mentioned her mom and siblings, but
Not her dad.
"Is he in the picture?"
"No. My folks divorced a year and a
Half ago."
"I'm so sorry. It's hard, isn't it?"
"Yes,"
"I bet people don't even want to
Talk about it."
"You're right."
I read my poem to her, the one
About it being better to say the
Wrong thing than nothing.
"It's true," she said. "Thank you
For caring. Can I share your blog
With my mom?"
"Sure."
When I told my new friend that she
Was my divine appointment for the day, she
Agreed saying, "I'm so glad I got to
Talk to you."
Her encouragement was just what I
Needed to keep me picking up the phone.
(Unless it's a political call.)
