I had attempted to make bread,
The yeast type that I needed to
Knead and allow to rise in a
Warm spot.
But after all my efforts it flopped.
When I groaned to my friend about my
Failure she said, "Dorothy, don't you know
That you learn from your mistakes?"
My sweet sister wouldn't remember
Her words now because of her
Devastating dementia.
But I haven't forgotten her wise
Counsel.
Often I pray for my grandkids,
"Lord, let them learn from their
Mistakes, but prevent them from
Making fatal ones."
I need the reminder because I make
Lots of mistakes, including one that
I regret today.
But my misstep will be beneficial if
I learn from it, grow from it and
Try not to repeat it.
And fortunately,
Gratefully,
It wasn't a fatal one.
