Since I'm a nostalgic soul, I'm Enchanted with covered bridges. I've visited a number of them over the Years with my kids. I try to imagine how it was when strong Work horses pulled heavy loads of hay Through the narrow enclosures or a Couple of country sweethearts would Stop in their buggy to steal a kiss undercover. Unfortunately, the bridges have Disappeared, many of them defaced by Vandals or burned down. Who knows why? But more than 125 of the rural icons still Remain in Ohio. And one of the covered bridges is just a Few years old. My brother drove me to the location to See it for myself. The wooden structure straddles a gentle Stream, a scenic spot to stop awhile and Long for simpler times. I snapped a few pictures and soaked up the Ambience. I'm glad the bridge has not been marred by Graffiti. I hope it will be spared the indignity of abuse. I'm glad someone was willing to spend the Money to erect a new, old fashioned bridge. We drove through the quaint wooden edifice to Follow a route to take us home. I'm glad that it's close enough so that when I Need to step back for a bit to reminisce, I can visit a covered bridge. |
