Asked the same question, "How can I
Go on without him?"
What could I say?
There's no formula for managing grief,
No magic words, no satisfying answers.
And then I remembered the old hymn.
I asked Alexa to play it.
"Does Jesus care when I've said
'Good-by' to the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches till it
Nearly breaks-Is it aught to Him?
Does He see?"
And the chorus affirms the truth.
"Oh yes, He cares; I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long
Nights dreary, I know my Savior cares."
When the refrain ended, we quietly
Contemplated the words.
It was just a poignant church song in
Our pre-widow days, but now the
Message pierced our souls.
And in tears I consoled my hurting friend,
"Alice, sometimes it just has to be
Enough to know He cares."
