I stopped by to see my friend In the facility where She is dying of cancer. She's getting confused, But she still remembered Me. Even though she is safe in Jesus's arms, She feels lost and Scared, a result of the Disease affecting her Brain. When we ran out of Words to say, I decided to sing. I held her hand and Sang hymns. I closed with "Amazing Grace." The last verse is powerful: "When we've been there Ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We've no less days to sing God's praise than when we'd First begun." My crackly voice betrayed My age, But neither of us cared. The melody and words Comforted us. As I kissed my friend's peach Fuzz head and left, The song tagged along with me, Stirring in my mind, And I pray the hopeful music Also stayed behind. |
