It happened just this week.
It was a sobering phone call.
My long time friend was dying and
I feared he didn't know Jesus.
I thought I could wait a
Day or two to visit him, but a
Nudge in my heart wouldn't let me.
"Go now!"
When I entered the hospice room he
Was lying there comatose, no sign of
Life except for his quiet breathing.
I was thankful we could be alone.
I bent down close and spoke to him.
"Jesus loves you. He wants you to be
With Him. Are you sure you're going to
Heaven?"
In response, his chest fluttered.
It seemed he heard me.
"If you want to be sure, copy my
Words," and I prayed for him the
Sinner's prayer.
"If you prayed with me, try to show me
In some way," I coached him.
Amazingly, he managed to pry his
Eyes open just a bit.
It was his silent response to me.
I went back the next day to
Encourage him along, but
He was already gone,
From death to new life at the last moment,
Just like the thief on the cross.
I've never witnessed a death bed conversion
Before, and I'll remember the
Precious experience for as long as I live.
I thank Jesus over and over that I
Obeyed that nudge.
Was it a genuine heart change?
I believe it was.
But one day I'll know for sure.
