Friend to finish her shopping.
To pass my time I stood and observed the
People milling around me and noticed all
Their beautiful different skin shades.
Some folks wore masks.
Some not.
Several women wore head coverings.
Others barely wore anything.
I detected the African accent of the
Employee standing by the entrance.
When he wasn't busy we chatted.
He offered to get me a chair, but I told
Him that standing was good for me.
I heard lots of friendly conversation as I
Surveyed the store, and not a single angry
Voice.
(But I did hear a loud baby wail.)
I'm sure that each of us shopping there had
Our own biases and prejudices, but we
Muted them.
We simply showed respect.
I was encouraged by the thought that most of
Us in our country are getting along and not
Spewing hatred and division.
If I need to return to sanity, I should simply go
Back to the store.
