Our group of friends who have
Supported each other for
Almost forty years.
We've lost husbands,
Children, and fellow
Sisters.
Marilyn was at our last luncheon,
But today, at our biannual potluck,
She was gone.
I noticed how we've aged together,
And the years haven't
Been kind.
The disabling pain,
The canes,
The faltering minds.
But our spirits haven't
Changed.
Linda joked, "Let's everyone
Tell our age."
We complied.
From sixty five to almost
Ninety two we ranged.
(But how long will we remember?
I have trouble keeping track of
My own.)
Old friends, connected by our
Love for each other and
Jesus.
We laughed,
Encouraged,
And shared prayer requests,
Treasuring the moments and
Wishing we could have lingered
Longer.
Old friends,
Spending an afternoon together and
Wondering, as we left, who might
Be missing the next time.
