The soldier's job was to carry mortars during the Big War. He was one of the "greatest generation," but What he saw was too painful to talk about. His seven children could only guess at the Atrocities he faced. When vanity license plates became available, the Dad created his own: Josh 1-5; but he never Explained why he chose it, not until he was Caught off guard one day. He was eating out with his daughter when the Owner of the restaurant spied his car outside and Asked him the meaning of his unique plate. "We were under attack," the man explained, "And The shells were falling all around us. The soldier next To me was blown apart. As I furiously dug a Foxhole with my little shovel God spoke to me. 'As I was with Moses, so will I be with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" As the old soldier remembered that day, he wept. When he died, his daughter, Reen, claimed the Plate as her own, and, now, everywhere she Goes, it continues to quietly pass along her dad's Message to the motorists behind her, the one that He found hard to verbalize. It's a message that helps us get through Our own hard foxhole days, a reminder that He's in the trenches with us. We're never for a moment alone. |
