It's been more than 30 years now. I was driving home from school on A dreary gray day. My wipers were pushing snowy Slush back and forth on my Windshield. My mood was blue too. It was Valentine's Day. I remembered the heart shaped Boxes of candy and sentimental Cards, gifts from my husband. But Min was gone. I was trying to prepare myself for an Empty mailbox. Why would anyone bother to send a Valentine to me? After I dropped my books on the Table I absentmindedly checked my Mail. Among the bills I noticed an Unfamiliar envelope. Curious, I opened it and silently Stared at a handmade valentine, Two tiny fabric hearts glued to a Red paper one. Included was a warm note. It was too much. I wept. I doubt the sender had any Idea what her kind act would Mean. But it started a tradition that Continues to this day. Each year I find a valentine in my Box from sweet Jan. And each year she finds a Valentine in her box from me. |
