"Big Apple," I was eating breakfast at
Our hotel.
A lady sat across from me at the
Round table which was draped with a
Black tablecloth that reached to the
Floor getting tangled with my feet.
It was our second day to meet for
Our morning repast.
When she first joined me, I knew.
I knew our meeting was planned.
The single lady lived in the area but
Was staying in the hotel while
Repairs were being completed at
Her small apartment.
She was frail, bent over with a
Debilitating disease and was
Wearing an unflattering wig.
A wisp of a woman, I imagine she was
Often overlooked, but she was spunky and
Seemed grateful for my company.
She was intelligent.
We compared notes about our upbringing, our
Aliments and our worldviews.
Jesus entered out conversation since He's at
The core of mine.
The lady was ambivalent about her faith, but
She asked lots of questions.
She was delighted that I gave her a bracelet.
We lingered over coffee until the breakfast hour was
Over and we were the only two left.
The woman followed me to my room where we
Delayed our good-byes.
We knew we would never again meet in person.
Her question surprised me.
"Are you trying to convert me?" she asked.
"I can't convert anyone," I told my new friend.
"Only God can do that. And whether or not you
Ever believe Jesus is the Messiah, I will love you.
Nothing can change that fact."
She seemed relieved.
Since she fears Covid, we exchanged air hugs.
And before she limped out the door steadying
Herself with her cane, we shared our
Addresses and phone numbers.
Now, I pray we will utilize them.
