Chose to fly to Denver from Columbus
Because of a cheaper rate.
We were both in wheelchairs, I
Because of my troublesome hip and
The old vet because his legs wouldn't
Work.
"My husband was a military guy too," I
Told him.
I could see in his face that the man had
Been down a "lot of rough road."
(As Jack would have said,)
He was flying to meet his daughter for the
First time in 25 years.
His ex-wife had whisked her away and
Finally his girl had managed to locate him.
The dad was excited about the reunion.
Just before my traveling partner and i
Boarded the plane I handed the man the
Tract I had written about Jack and we
Parted ways.
Three days later as Jill and I were headed
Home she wheeled me to the waiting area in
The Denver airport, and there he was,
The weathered man in his wheelchair.
We were elated!
We shared hugs.
"Did you read my tract," I asked him.
"Yes I did. I gave it to my daughter and
Asked her to put it in a frame."
"I have another one for you."
The man read it, stuck it in his shirt pocket and
Said, "That's nice."
"I have something else for you too."
I tied a gospel bracelet to his wrist and
Explained the colors.
As I read each Bible verse he followed
Along taking in every word.
"Do you know you would go to heaven if
You died?"
"No."
"Do you want to pray a prayer to know for sure?"
"Not right now."
"When you do pray it, will you call me?"
And I wrote my phone number on the tract.
At that very moment we were called to board
The plane.
Three hours later, back in Columbus, two
Attendants pushed the vet and me side by
Side through the airport until his Ohio daughter
Spotted him.
"We've become friends," We told the woman.
"Look what they gave me," Mike said as he held up
His wrist to show off his bracelet.
As we waved good-by I wondered whether
Someone else could possibly have been
Praying for our new friend.
I noticed that his daughter was wearing a
Cross around her neck.
