Neighborhood, I noticed a
Jogger on the sidewalk.
Suddenly I recognized him.
He was from church and his
Wife died several months ago.
Since there were no other
Cars on the street, I stopped mine,
Rolled down the window and
Called to him.
He walked over and we talked.
"What's hardest for you right
Now?" I asked.
He thought a moment and then
Responded, "The loneliness,
No longer getting hugs..."
We were both startled when I
Jumped out of the car,
Gave him a quick hug, and
Hopped back in.
We talked some more, about
Tears and how they come at
Unexpected times, and how
We carry on despite them.
When a car finally pulled up
Behind me, he went back
To jogging, and I went on to
My friend's house certain that
I was meant to pass
That way today.
