The two seem inseparable
Some of the songs have endured since the
Middle Ages.
New composers try to replace the old
Carols, but I'm glad the classics have
Lived on.
When I was in my youth group we caroled for
The shut ins from our church.
The old timers knew when we were coming and
Had treats waiting for us.
And it was bitter sweet after Min died, when
Singers surprised my girls and me by
Seranading us on our front lawn.
A friend who was raised in a Christian family in
India caroled all night long for several days
Before Christmas.
Wow! What a joyful tradition!
My condo friends and I used to sing outside in
The elements too.
But now that our bones are creaky we're content
To stay in my living room.
We did just that today.
With voices ranging from monotone to melodious
We sang our hearts out.
I believe God was pleased.
The words are so familiar that we often overlook
The remarkable message we're singing.
"Christ, by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord.
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of the virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh, the godhead see;
Hail, the incarnate deity,
Pleased as man with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emanuel!
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn king." *
The profound truth is revealed to
Anyone who is willing to listen and
Who has a heart willing to believe.
