I pondered how I would spend the
Day, the anniversary of Jack's death.
Eat out with a friend?
Stay home and read his journals?
Drive to the cemetery?
I finally chose none of the above.
Instead, I drove to the nursing home and
Dropped off a card for Betty.
I stopped at Panera to buy a loaf of
Rye bread and a giant cookie dotted with
Colored candies.
I delivered the bread to a gal who
Recently lost her mom and the cookie to my
Ninety seven-year-old neighbor.
I chatted and prayed with each of them.
I spent Jack's homegoing day trying to
Spread cheer to my friends just as he would
Have preferred I do, but truthfully, my visits
Were mostly to gladden me.
