Even when our spouses are so ill
That we ask Jesus to take them
Home, we can't anticipate the
Grief that will follow.
There's no way to prepare, and yet,
Perhaps to a degree, we can
Prepare.
Prepare to go for days or weeks on
End without shedding a tear and to
Then suddenly sob uncontrollably.
Prepare to walk through the grocery
Store and wonder what you are doing
There or wonder why home no longer
Feels like home or why the world
Hasn't stopped for anyone else.
Prepare to wish that God had taken you first,
And then to thank Him that Triceine didn't
Need to experience the throes of grief.
Prepare to be crushed to bits only to find
That God is somehow still holding you
Together.
Prepare for His comfort.
Prepare for His strength.
Prepare for His hope.
And prepare to discover, Pastor Jim,
That in your deepest sorrow and for
Every tomorrow God will prove again and
Again and again that He is faithful.
