I was touched by her request. She is running the Honor Flight race Today, and she asked if she could Carry something that belonged to Jack. I gave away much of his memorabilia to His three kids, each of whom also Served in the military. But I kept a few things. I fingered through his pins that he Wore on special occasions. And I reminisced. As his health declined I pushed my Husband in a wheelchair through the Corridors of the VA clinic. I was proud to be his wife, Proud that he had given up 21 years of his Life to serve his country. I remembered how his friends and family and I had Cheered and carried on as he returned from his Honor Flight trip to Washington. The atmosphere in the airport was Electrifying. We gave Jack a hero's welcome because he Was one. As Stephanie runs today she will be wearing His pin from the Signal Corps and his ID badge From church where he so faithfully Ministered as well. My former preschooler, all grown up, will run For my Jack today. If he knew, he would be happy. He would be humbled. He would be honored. |
