The technician who checked out my
Air conditioner was a man of color and
When he completed his task we got
Acquainted.
"You matter to me," I told him,
"And I'm sorry for the hardships
You've had to endure because of the
Color of your skin."
"Yes, I've faced discrimination," he said.
His next remark surprised me.
"But don't feel sorry for me. Feel sorry for
The perpetrators, because their hate
Destroys them and not me."
I sensed he was a Jesus follower,
"Yes!"
We rejoiced in our shared faith.
And as I chatted with the young man I
Was touched to realize that I mattered to
Him as much as he mattered to me.
