I've written about him before, my Neighbor, almost 97 now. Today I took him a piece of homemade Pumpkin pie. We sat and chatted. He was in his recliner right beside Helen's, empty now after 74 years of Sitting right next to him He offered me pretzels, candy orange Slices, and peanuts from the Stash he always keeps near At hand. He bragged about his grandson, and We laughted at our foibles. I admire him. He doesn't complain about the Catheter bag that he must always Wear and that sometimes leaks at Night forcing him to change the Sheets. He told me that the days and Years rush by more quickly as You age, and that I'm just a Young thing. (Bless his heart.) I shared a devotional, Prayed with him, told him not to Get up, and gave him A good-by hug. "I like your visits," he told me. And I told him, "So do I. I'll be back." And I will, as long as he's still there Sitting in his chair. |
