Bathing them,
Feeding them,
Cuddling them, not
Expecting anything in
Return.
Those days resurfaced when I cared
For my husband.
Childlike in his abilities,
I helped Jack take a shower,
Dressed him in warm clothes,
Settled him in his recliner with
A neck heating bag, a
Blanket pulled up to his chin.
I hugged him,
Kissed him, my heart
Filled with love.
Knowing he was clean,
Comfy, and
Content was reward enough.
