I was in high spirits. I had just enjoyed breakfast with My relatives and was on the Highway heading to my Home when I noticed the Flashing lights of the patrol car. The trooper had pulled someone to the Berm, and I was glad I wasn't the Culprit. I made sure I was driving the Speed limit, so when the ominous Lights began to follow my car, I assumed the officer was pursuing Someone else. I was wrong. When I turned onto the side road just In case, he followed me. My infraction? I should have moved over into the Far lane when I first spotted the Patrolman alongside the highway. "More officers get killed on the Road than anywhere else," He informed me. And my ignorance wasn't an excuse. While the uniformed man wrote a Citation for my misdeed, I began To write a note on the back of my "Have A Good One" tract. "Dear officer, I am so sorry I disobeyed the Law. I know you are just doing Your job. Blessings, Dorothy" When he handed me the $135.00 fine, I handed him the tract knowing It was appropriate for the occasion. My bad day was probably a good One for him, Two tickets within just a few minutes. It was an expensive driving lesson. I drove the remaining miles home in A somber, subdued spirit. (And very carefully too.) |
