His dementia, I picked the brains of
Others who had already gone through the
Struggle and survived.
I passed on the favor today with the
Mom of a friend of mine.
We compared notes as she described the
Downward spiral.
Soon her husband will be in a
Wheelchair.
He told her, "We're at the end now,
When all we do is cry."
This dear wife and I both spilled tears as
We met for breakfast at Panera's.
I didn't have a lot of answers, but
I listened and told her not to feel
Guilty, that she was doing the best
Job possible.
"Music helps," I said.
"Scripture helps.
Deep breaths help.
Inhale trust.
Exhale worry.
Say the words as you breathe.
'Trust in, worry out.'
God will not abandon you."
I know He will sustain my sister during her
Jagged journey.
And I suspect that in time she will be the one
Sitting with a hurting friend passing on the
Lessons she learned from going
Through the fire.
