As I meandered around the pond I
Noticed an older gentleman clutching a
Cane sitting on the bench.
He asked me to join him.
I sat down beside the man and
We got acquainted.
He described his ethnic background.
"I've never met anyone from your
Country," I told him.
"Well, you have now," he said with
Delight, and patted my knee.
I learned he had moved to Ohio from
The "Big Apple."
"But it was a mistake," the man said.
"Here there are no subways, no
Way to get around without a car."
He felt isolated.
We compared our backgrounds, quite a
Contrast.
I, a farm girl who longs for open spaces,
And he who wishes he were back in
The congested city.
"Do you know about Jesus?" I asked.
He did.
But I sensed he didn't really know Him.
The disgruntled, displaced fellow allowed me
To tie a bracelet on his wrist and to
Explain the gospel with the colored beads.
When I stood up, he did also, and we
Walked down the path together.
As we parted ways I asked, "Do you have
A prayer request?"
"Just for my health," the man with the cane
Replied.
Actually, I'm mostly concerned about his
Spiritual health.
