It's stimulating to hear an exchange between an
Atheist and a Jesus follower.
Such an interaction enables me to see both
Sides of the issue and helps me to firm up my
Own beliefs.
My faith isn't blind faith.
Christianity is based on evidence, and I should be
Ready to defend the reason for my hope. *
In this case, the debaters, Peter Singer and
John Lennox, posited strong arguments for
Their opposing positions.
One topic that often comes up in such
Debates is "Why suffering?"
Peter, the atheist, didn't give an explanation.
From his perspective, pain and suffering are
Just the way things have haphazardly
Evolved.
We are just higher tier animals and the
Only meaning in life is what we as individuals
Are able to conjure up in ourselves.
Death ends it all.
There is no justice.
But John asserted that for a believer in God,
Suffering is just temporary, and is a tool
God uses to shape us.
Eventually wrongs will be righted.
And because God created us in His image, our
Lives have meaning and purpose.
I can understand why Lennox would desire
That his audience accept his Christian faith.
His beliefs hold out hope for both here and the
Hereafter.
But Singer's motivation puzzles me.
His ideology of unbelief offers me no
Hope at all.
Why would he want me to embrace it?
