Mom loved flowers. Along with her vegetables, one section of Her garden was devoted to blooms, a Profusion of them. When I was a girl she led me through the Neat paths and pointed out canterbury bells, Poppies, "Pineys' and "Flags," just to name a few of those I Remember. Rose bushes lined the edge of our gravel Driveway, and next to the bushes she Planted a long row of showy petunias. My mother explained the difference between Annuals, bi-annuals and perennials, and The two of us picked bouquets to adorn our Loved one's graves on Decoration Day. As a youngster I took all her efforts for granted. But no longer. I know the stamina it takes just to plant a Stretch of begonias along my sidewalk. Each year on Mother's Day I like to Select a "Mom Moment" and savor the Sweet memory. Today I'm holding hands with Mom as we Wend our way through her well tended Garden. I'm glad she passed her love for Flowers on to me. |
