Jack always said that in the Army you hurry up so you can Wait. It was true for me yesterday. I needed to renew my military ID card, the one that entitles me to Jack's health benefits. I didn't waste time driving across Town, and when I entered the Office I took a number. But the line didn't seem to move. After 45 minutes I approached a lady Behind the desk. She encouraged me to hang on, And after 2 hours I finally had my new Plastic card with my dastardly photo Displayed on the front. During my wait I became acquainted with A number of folks. I gave a tract to a gal who I later discovered Was Jewish and to her co-worker who is Dealing with the heartbreak of her mother's Dementia. I also handed a pamphlet to the clerk who Finally issued me my card. I commended him on his ability to keep cool Under stressful circumstances. And as I left I waved a hopeful good-by to the Retired Navy man and his wife who were Far in line behind me and who still had a 2 Hour drive home to Portsmouth. |
