It was a reunion. My nephew invited the Kalb clan to His farm. It had been years since we had been Together, and it was the first chance for Danny to meet my extended family. He was nervous. He shouldn't have been. "They were all so kind," he said later. We had all changed. I didn't even recognize one of my Nephews. My siblings and I were also barely Recognizable. What happened to my adventuresome Brothers who once scaled the Outside of the tall silo, who ran Across the high beams in the barn, who Built (and wrecked) a gyrocopter, and Drove their scooters at high speeds On the gravel back country roads? My brother Carl is already home. John, my oldest brother, lives in a Facility and the other 3 have Battled cancer and heart disease. It's a wonder that the 4 of us are Still alive. Carl passed on the flying bug to Brian. We admired his pristine yellow Plane, and my great nephew Enjoyed his first ever ride in the sky. We milled around the tables trying to Fit several years of news into a Few moments. The day was idyllic. Who will be present at our next reunion? Who will be missing? It's why I will hold in my heart the Memories of this day, the Gathering of my loved ones, the Kind Kalb kin. |
