The nursing home?
It was our Thanksgiving meeting and
Nothing new came to mind.
Then I noticed the votive candles on my
Book shelf and the idea clicked.
Standing before the handful of ladies I
Selected items from my gift bag:
Food, socks, a family picture, all
Blessings I'm thankful for.
And then I pulled out the four candles which
Spelled out the word H O P E.
"I'm thankful for hope," I said.
"Our belongings will one day be gone.
Our loved ones will one day be gone,
But God is forever faithful.
He is our strong and certain hope."
I passed out several verses on the
Topic, and one of the ladies read
Her passage. "But I do not want you to
Be ignorant, brethren, concerning those
Who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as
Those who have no hope." *
A woman in the back spoke up,
"Did you know she just lost her husband a
Week ago?"
I was stunned.
And the new widow responded,
"That verse was meant just for me.
I have hope that I'll see my husband again."
Afterwards, we hugged each other for a
Long time.
And when the bereaved woman returned to her
Room she carried the Bible verse with her.
And the candles are back on my shelf.
