First there were 2 fawns tagging Along behind their mother, Speckled Bambies whose Camouflage was no Protection in our lush lawn that Backs up to a wooded area. I delighted in watching the Babies frolic in the green space. They were oblivious to the fact that I was peering at their antics from My window perch. I would call to Danny, or he to me, "The fawns are back!" Recently, only one baby has Appeared with the doe. As I suspected, a neighbor Spotted the dead fawn in the Underbrush, perhaps a victim of Disease, injury or a predator. Even in an urban area, dangers Lurk. As I gaze at the scaled down pair Lying quietly in the grass I wonder Whether the mama deer is aware That one of her twins is absent. Perhaps not. But I am. |
