Taking my girls out to eat before
They headed back to their own
Homes.
But where?
Just as when they were teenagers,
One daughter was willing to eat at any
Restaurant, but the other,
Whom I won't name, was very picky.
"Not that place.
Not that place."
Instead of losing my cool I laughed,
Amazed that her quirk had resurfaced.
When we finally agreed on a Mexican eatery we
Discovered that it wouldn't open for
Another hour.
And so we slowly continued driving
Through the shopping center.
Out of desperation we pulled up to a
Spaghetti establishment,
Not my choice.
When we were seated I noticed that
Our pleasant, just-graduated waitress
Was wearing a bracelet.
I asked her about it.
"A co-worker died," she said, "and we all
Wear these wrist bands in his memory."
I removed mine and asked whether she would
Like me to tie it next to her gray one.
"Yes."
"I had better tell you what the colors mean or
You may change your mind."
After I explained the gospel with the beads
She said, "I love it. I love it."
I also told the sweet little gal that she
Was my divine appointment for the day.
I don't know whether she believed me.
But after our laborious quest to select a
Place to eat, my girls and I were convinced.
We were meant to meet Katie.
